A Walk

Whiteside & Raise

8.5 Miles Grade 1

Leader: Ian Rowley

We will meet at Carlisle Bus Station at 10:00am in time to catch the 10:15am bus to Corby Hill.

From Corby Hill various field  and woodland footpaths take us to Newby East and then on to Crosby on Eden.

At Crosby on Eden we join the Hadrian Wall path along the bank of the River Eden to Linstock.

At Linstock there will be the option of heading straight back to Carlisle or extending the walk via Brunstock, Houghton and Tarraby.

Starting from Glenridding the walk heads up towards Greenside mine then on towards Keppel Cove before ascending by steep zig-zagged path and then an easy climb to the top of Whiteside for a welcome lunch break. We’ll descend slightly and then make the short climb on to the summit of Raise. From here its downhill all the way to the crossing point of Sticks Pass before dropping down further to the extensive remains of the Greenside Mine complex. From here it’s an easy descent back down to Glenridding or, if we still have the legs, we could take in the summits of Sheffield Pike and Glenridding Dodd. Given good weather a fine walk with lots of interest

C Walk

Grisedale Valley

6 Miles Grade 4

Leader: John McKay

Coach Walk:Rosehill:8.50am Sands:9.00am

We will leave the bus at Pooley Bridge and walk the Ullswater Way all the way to Glendinning.

A couple of things to note we will not be going over Gowbarrow rather round the side and also lunch will be taken at the Café at Aira Force.

A nice walk of approximately  10 miles Grade 3 and weather permitting fantastic views of the lake and surrounding area.

This walk was originally going to be led by

Madge but family commitments have prevented her from leading so you’re stuck with me.

Basically we go up one side of Grisedale Beck and back down the other side. All being well we will have lunch at the climbing hut (halfway) before making the return leg via Lanty’s Tarn and back into Glenridding.

A pleasant walk which will be done at a very leisurely pace
