Park at Cow Bridge (Brotherswater)
Taking the path along Brotherswater, past Hartsop Hall we then climb alongside Dovedale beck upto Priests hole cave.
After a visit to the cave we descend again slightly and then summit Dove crag. Following a short walk along the top we descend to Little Hart crag. From here we descend down Caiston beck, or optional climb steeply 250m height gain up Red Screes and then descend off Middle Dodd.
Either way, it is back to Cow Bridge.

Nothing too strenuous, it is Christmas Eve after all. Depending on the weather we will do either 7 or 9 miles. If the weather is good then we will do the full 9 miles. We set off from the Nature Reserve Car Park at Clesketts, just south of Hallbankgate. We head off for Forrest Head and make our way through the old quarry and end up in Howgill. If the weather is bad we will miss the quarry out and go straight to Howgill. We will then make our way along the south side of Tindale tarn, stopping off at Stagsike Bird House, probably for lunch and no doubt to use the toilets. We carry on along the side of Tindale Tarn, bypassing the dodgy river crossing and make our way to the village of Tindale. It’s then along some lovely paths on the north side of the tarn which will bring us back to Clesketts. It’s then off to Hayton Farm Shop. A lovely, pleasant, leisurely walk which will definitely be muddy in parts but there should be no other obstacles.
