Meet 10.00 main car park in Annan town centre. Coming from the east, turn left at the first set of traffic lights in the town centre, immediately after Subway, into Murray Street. Car park (free) is 50 yards along on the right, immediately past the vet's surgery. GR 195665. Toilets nearby.
We set off through the park at the river and go upstream on the left bank, crossing one or other of the footbridges as the fancy takes us. On arrival at Brydekirk we cross the road bridge and return to Annan by the opposite bank, keeping an eye open for wildlife. Refreshments will be found in Annan!
If fatigue or inclement weather set in, the walk may be shortened. The steepest climb is from the path to the main road – about 5 metres of ascent. Crampons probably unnecessary. It will be glaurie and soggy in places; if it is under water we shall do a different walk! The steepest climb is from the footpath to the main road.
We park at Chapel Bridge, Little Town, Newlands Valley (NY232194). We will ascend and descend via two steep ridges on good paths although exposed in places there is no technical difficulty.
Starting past Newlands Church and through Low Snab Farm Yard we access Scope End for the climb up on to Red Knott then High Crags before the last steep section leading us on to Hindscarth at 727m where we can have a break. From there it is easy going round to Littledale Edge and then up onto Robinson at 737m our highest point and lunch.
There follows a steep rather exposed descending section over Blea Crags to reach High Snab Bank, a gentler end descent to the days walk back to Low High Snab and Newlands Church.
Refreshments back in Braithwaite?
Slight change to the walk on the programme.
We will park in Keswick (somewhere) and walk round one side of Derwentwater and weather permitting walk back to Keswick via Ashness Bridge and Walla Crag.
Ashness Bridge is the probable lunch stop as it is quite a picturesque spot, as I'm sure you are aware 🙂
Lets pray for good weather and hope to see you there.
