B Walk

Tindale Tarn Circular

8 Miles Grade 4

Leader: Stephen Parker

We will park at the RSPB car park in Hallbankgate, from there we will take the lane to the old quarry (passed some lime kilns) we will then begin a short ascent to pick up the old railway line that used to run to The Gairs we will walk through the RSPB nature reserve with some fantastic view of the surrounding fells and of course Tindale Tarn. Lunch will be taken at the old spelter works at Tindale, after lunch it is the walk back to the cars along another old railway line and a short bit of road walking.

It is then off to Hayton Farm Shop for refreshments.

Although down as a grade 3, it is probably more of a grade 4 with the short ascent out of the quarry the only climb of this walk, from what I remember 😊

Stephen

Meet at Sands at 09.15 or Map OL 43 776 689 Bardon Mill on the road by the War Memorial.

This walk has now become a Grade 3/4 due to landslip and/or trees falling on the  path up Staward Gorge so it is now closed.   Therefore we are NOT going up to the Peel.

So, From Bardon Mill we cross the railway track to Beltingham.  Walk on paths and minor roads with with views to Ridley Hall.  Climb up to Allen Banks to see the Summer House visited by Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother or take the riverside path. Continue to Plankey Mill for lunch.Cross back over the bridge and head for Briar Banks, Wood House, and Bardon Mill. My new best friend at the local shop and cafe is opening specially for us.
