This Weeks Walks
Sunday 28th April 2019
B Walk
Fellbarrow - Low Fell
10 Miles Grade 3
Leader: Malcolm Iredale
Car Walk-Sands: 9.00am
Car Walk:Sands:9.00am
This walk as planned will be 7 mls and takes in 3 Wainwrights of Middle Fell, Seatallen and Buckbarrow. There are stunning views particularly of the Scafells and Mickledore, with Wastwater and the Screes, Gable, Pillar group, Yewbarrow etc as well as out to sea/Isle of Man.
We park at Greendale roadside (NY 145056 just before reaching Wastwater) and start immediately up the steepish pull up Middle Fell but half way up the going eases. Although the top is reached in a little over an hour it is worth getting the flasks out to linger and take in the views. Dropping down to the coll above Greendale Tarn we then face the steep climb up Seatallen which should be completed in a little over half an hour and lunch will be a welcome break looking out to sea knowing the rest is downhill. We head South to Cat Bields then East to Glade How and finally Buckbarrow - another place to linger for the view. A steepish descent via Gill Beck drops us down to the road and a 10 minute walk back to the cars. Refreshments in Gosforth.

Sale Fell - Ling Fell
7 Miles Grade 3
Leader: Jenny Smith
Sands: 9.15am
For those not going to the Sands to meet up.
To the beginning of the walk. Turn off the A66 towards the Pheasant Inn, take the road to the right of the Inn, follow that for about ½ a mile, past a few houses (Routenbeck) to a place where there is a footpath sign to the left with parking by the side of the road.
The walk is mainly on good grassy paths with lovely views over Bassenthwaite Lake, we will walk to the top of Sale Fell, then descend and after a very short road walk we will take the path on to Ling Fell, again this is an easy climb on grassy paths before we return to the parking place.

A Walk
Seatallan from Wasdale
7 Miles Grade 2
Leader: David Bulman
Car Walk-Sands: 9.00am
After leaving our cars beside the phone box at Loweswater
( lake not village!) we head off up the footpath to join the old "green" Loweswater / Mosser road. A pleasant jaunt along the tracks with good Solway views until we drop into Gill Brow.
Through the small hamlet we head up the track past Fellside Farm, and over the stream to pick up a footpath to drop us onto another green road - Mosser - Low Lorton. This track affords some great Solway views - weather permitting !! - before we head up a track for Whin Fell and Hatteringill Head - not forgetting to look back for the view - or to catch breath!! From here we see the highest - but only just!! - point of out walk - Fellbarrow - a small Wainwright at 1,363ft - and a grand view when we get there - again, weather permitting!!. From the top we bounce along the open fell top towards Low Fell, taking in some tremendous views (hopefully) of the Lorton Valley, Grasmoor, Crummock Water and the Buttermere Fells.
Our final destination is Low Fell - another small Wainwright at 1,360ft with a glorious view down Crummock water and surrounding Fells - regarded by many as a Lake District Classic. We are now homeward bound, with a short - ( fairly!! ), sharp - (certainly!!) descent from the summit, followed by a similar short - (again fairly!!), sharp - (certainly) ascent over the wonderfully named - Darling Fell - surely a suitable outing for the next Valentine’s Day walk!!! We will see the cars form the top of Darling Fell, so its downhill to rejoin the
Loweswater / Mosser Green road and a path down the hillside.
The walk is about 10 miles, and although on good tracks all the way, there are a few climbs, not scrambles!! - some of which come late in the day / walk. Don’t let this put you off!! It’s a great walk,
affording great exercise with good views!!!
If you have been to this lovely area before then why not stroll it again - and if you haven't then you are missing a real gem - on this Grade 2 B walk which offers good exercise and cracking views on the - relatively quiet - edge of the Lakes - something for everyone.
