A Walk
Irthing Valley & Waterfall (Gilsland)
Leader: Alan Dobson
Car Walk Sands 9.00am
A nice gentle walk to shake off the cobwebs and and provide a little bit of exercise after the over indulgence of Christmas day.
We set off from Warwick On Eden, outside the Queen's pub and go wandering off over fields and through woods and across the golf course to Scotby and navigate our way through to reach Wetheral. We make our way along the Eden and arrive at the Viaduct.
It's then the only climb of the day, the 99 steps to the top of the viaduct. Up through Wetheral and along the side of the railway track which we cross over and head back into Warwick On Eden.
A delightful little walk.

Car Walk: Sands:9.00am
For those who want to get out of the house after Christmas this is a pleasant and varied walk , we park at Gilsland shool and follow the Roman Wall to Birdozwald camp then cross country and head back to the village taking the path along the River Irthing to high cup nick then drop down into the Gilsland Hall woods and climb up the other side crossing ..the river again , its then a couple of miles to the waterfall hopefully following the ridge path of the valley - the last time I did this walk I couldn't find this ..path as the bracken was to high .-it should have died down by now , from the waterfall we double back through the woods and past Gilsland church and across the popping stones to the village, for coffee if anything is open , There are a few short steep climbs on this walk and it may be a little boggy in places and there are a few ..styles

Car Walk: Sands:9.00am
This walk is a longer version of one of the Thursday night walks.
Setting off from Curthwaite we wander along nice footpaths
and through some lovely woodland. No hills to speak of, a nice flat leisurely walk. There will be mud of course and considering the weather recently, probably lots of it but mud has never spoiled a good walk
