A Walk

High Spy - Cat Bells

8 Miles Grade 2

Leader: Peter Flynn

Wed forecast better than Tuesday! Park at Revelin Moss; it costs but nowhere else so convenient. Nice walk, not too strenuous, plenty of chat, with lovely views from summit. If we felt good we could take in Barf as well but probably stick to good big tracks back to Whinlatter centre for tea.

Hope to see you.

B Walk

Castle Crag - Keswick

8 Miles Grade 3

Leader: Chris & Tom Fortune

X

X

This walk will start in Grange and finish in Keswick. As we leave Grange we need to be aware of the time as the service will start at 11 am prompt with or without us. There should be ample time, however, to achieve this without undue haste.

Castle Crag is only a summit of approx 990 feet but it is worth noting that most of this ascent is completed in the last half mile and follows a steep path through shale that might occasionally require a slight degree of scrambling, particularly if wet.

Following the service we will descend half of the distance through the shale and cross a stile. We then descend quite steeply down the fell side to join the Cumbria Way. This follows the meanderings of the River Derwent back towards the lake. Just before Grange we cut west and head up towards Manesty, but before reaching there we cut back towards the Cumbria Way after a short stretch of road walking, and shortly after this we join the path that follows the west side of Derwent Water back into Keswick via Nichol’s End and Portinscale.

Having paid our respects we will then enjoy a well earned recuperation in a local cafe.

Tom & Chris

First of all,  do not forget the start  is 30 mins earlier than normal - 8. 20 & 8.30am at Rosehill and the Sands respectively.  After the Remembrance Day memorial,  we will head back towards Grange and Swanesty How and then take the path that leads diagonally across the fellside across and then above Nitting Haws and then on to Narrow Moor.  Here we head in the northerly direction towards Keswick and should be there in plenty of time for tea and whatever  before the bus back to Carlisle.  Not a difficult walk, no scrambling,  quite steep from the valley onto the ridge,  but we can take that very easily.

C Walk

Keswick - Fitz Park Memorial

6 Miles Grade 4

Leader: Joe Birney

Rememberance Sunday

We leave the coach at Keswick Bus Station, walk via Stanger Street and cross the New Bridge over the River Greta into Fitz Park.  Following various paths through the park leads us to the Keswick War Memorial to observe the 2 minutes silence.  After sharing these moments with the local people our walk takes us to Briar Rigg and open country.  Passing Ormathwaite Hall brings us to Applethwaite (lunch break) and Thrushwood.  We cross the A591 and busy A66 road and reaching Crosthwaite Church where a lonning leads to Stormwater Bridge followed by a short walk back to Keswick.
