We will leave the coach in the centre of Sedbergh and make our way past the school and on to Birks, from there it is on to the Quaker Meeting House at Briggflatts. After a brief stop it is back the way we came for a short way to the main road and pick up the Dales Way which leads to a lovely riverside walk which takes us over a footbridge and back onto the road and Millthrop which may make a convenient lunch stop.
After lunch its more riverside walking to Straight Bridge at this point we will make our way back to Sedbergh via Stone Hall and Ghyll Farm.
A great walk of just over 8miles and no 'big' hills just little undulations and more a grade 3/4.
Sunday 13th October 2019 - Coach Walk - Sedbergh- Rosehill: 8.50am - Sands: 9.00am
This walk crosses pretty much the full length of the Howgills from north to south taking in several tops including the highest point,
The Calf, at 2218 ft.
From a starting point about three miles from Tebay we’ll follow the Dales Highway long distance path. As the walk starts from a height of 600 ft we only have a thousand feet or so of climbing and a distance of a couple of miles to reach the first top and after this we stay at above 1600 ft for most of the walk. The broad grassy hills are very different to Lake District fells and we’ll hope for good weather to make the best of the views although navigation shouldn’t be a problem.
I would rate this as a relatively easy “A” walk.
