Angle Tarn
“B” Walk Sunday 1st September 2013
Angle Tarn
Leader: Heather Perrin
A brilliant walk today, Angle Tarn is always a delight. It was well and truly recce’d by Heather, as we have come to expect, and was exactly as it said on the tin. A longish uphill stretch to Hayeswater, which personally I found very tough due to a very painful hip and apologies to everyone for lagging behind. This was an unusual walk as it involved two lunch breaks, a trend which I hope continues. The first one was at Hayeswater and we then continued on an upward trend towards the ridge leading up to the Knott. Thankfully we were not going to the Knott and it was a relief to reach the ridge and the flattish path heading towards Brock Craggs and Angle Tarn. We had our second lunch stop at Brock Craggs and headed off round Angle Tarn. Some of the fitter members of our fifteen strong party went off up Angle Tarn Craggs and the rest of us carried on to Boredale Hause, where we waited for them to catch us up. We then strolled down to Hartsop and on to the Brotherswater Inn for refreshment. A great day, a little bit of a cold wind at times but not a drop of rain and some nice little patches of sunshine. Many thanks to everyone who came along and a special thanks to Heather for leading a well planned fantastic walk.

B Walk. Sunday 1st September
This is the sort of walk that really makes the club worth while. 15 of us were dropped off at Hartsop with instructions from Heather to say that the climb via Hayeswater up to the slopes of The Knott was quite steep but after that it was not too bad. As this constituted well over half the walk it didn’t matter too much about the rest being level or downhill. We set off at a variety of paces, and the tartan bandit complained of a sore hip (or something) and after a short time had a sit down strike, but when he realised that a) nobody was worried and b) that we were talking about him, he made a miraculous recovery, cranked up a couple of gears and overtook us all. 5 of us were given permission (encouragement?) to go up the steep slopes to Angle Tarn Crag, involving a steep, perilous scramble and this was superb, giving stunning views over the north eastern fells. Every little corner of the walk revealed a new and beautiful view of a hidden part of the fells and we finished up walking along the shores of Brotherswater to the hotel of the same name. Thanks Heather for a lovely and memorable ramble.
