Grasmoor Walk
"A Walk 31st March
Grasmoor, Sand Hill, Hopegill Head.
A great walk today led by Fred Bell. Six in total, Fred, Myself, Lauren & Peter, Bernard and new member David Bulman on his first “A” Walk. He managed no problem at all, certainly better than me. It was my first “A” Walk for quite a while and it didn't take long to remind me why I tend to do “B” Walks these days. I would classify this walk as “a three heart attack walk”, it’s a long slog from Crummock Water to Grasmoor, a relentless climb. We had lunch in the “shelter” but It was a short lunch. It was a lovely sunny, clear day but the wind was bitterly cold so we didn’t hang about. We headed off for Sand Hill and stopped twice on the way. The first time to put on our goggles and then to put on our grippers, conditions underfoot were quite tricky. We made our way to Sand Hill and on to Hopegill Head. I asked myself, after my third heart attack, Why am I doing this? but the views from Hopegill Head gave me the answer, fantastic. It’s a steep descent from Hopegill Head with lots of scree and it was a relief to reach the bottom. The wind had dropped and it was like a summer day. We stopped off at the Wheatsheaf on the way back for some well earned refreshment. A tough but great walk and great company. A big thank you to Fred and everyone else for a great day.
