Illgill Head August 18th 2013

A Walk Sunday 18 August 2013

Illgill Head and Whin Rigg

Forecast for a reasonable day weatherwise so 7 of us followed the sign to Eshdel (see photo)  from Porterthwaite via Mitredale towards Burnmoor Tarn. A short but sharp shower had us scrambling for  waterproofs only for them to come off a quarter of an hour later just as we started the ascent part of the walk up to Illgill Head.   We were greeted on top by gale force gusts of wind, or so it felt, but fantastic  and very different views across Wasdale and back to Great Gable.  A brisk stroll off the mountain through the woods for afternoon tea and fungi spotting having en route to dodge a trio of beautiful Clydesdale horses. Back to the cars and onto the pub for well deserved  refreshments.  Thanks for another great walk led by Neil.
