Sale Fell & Ling Fell
7 miles Grade 2
Leader: Heather Perrin
Heather makes her debut as a walk reporter.
Despite the awful (but indeed, correct) weather forecast, eleven stalwarts started up the lovely green path from the road to Wythop to reach the top of Sale Fell. Low cloud at the top rendered the awesome views of Skiddaw, Ullock Pike and the Wythop Fells no more than vague grey shapes so we descended and ascended to the top of Lothwaite to have a look at Bassenthwaite instead. We continued along the path towards Kelswick Farm, and had lunch within the woods near Brumston Bridge. Starting the ascent of Ling Fell along the corpse road, the wind and rain grew stronger and we didn’t linger (oops!) at the top of Ling. With a spirit of adventure we came down cross country, crossing the boundary wall to find the gate onto Green Lonnin. Turning right onto the track, we followed it into Wythop Mill, then along the road back to the cars.
