The walk starts at the rear of The Discovery Centre, Rheged. Taking field paths we head towards the village of Tirril on route crossing a bridge over the river Eamont. From here we walk towards Askham using field paths and a small amount of road walking. On approaching Askham we pass the entrance to Askham Hall gardens and cafe.Today is not the time for a visit although the cafe can be recommended for a future visit when you can sit in either the garden or old stable block to enjoy your refreshment. On we go turning left on entering the village centre to cross the bridge over The River Lowther. We follow the river for a while then head along the side of a wood to Whale. Turning right along a minor road we cross the river Lowther again and head toward Helton. At the end of the buildings we take a path on the right which takes us on to Askham Fell and a gradual ascent. Following a clear path this takes to Roehead where we meet the road into Pooley Bridge our final destination. A beautiful walk of two halves, riverside and countryside at first and later the splendour of Askham Fell and views of Ullswater. Refreshments wait in Pooley Bridge

I will meet you at the Car Park at Askham Community Centre plenty of parking ( just before Queens Pub at T Junction)  (GR 513236) easiest way is to turn first  right in Eamont Bridge then first left over railway bridge to Askham at Yanwath School.

If the weather is kind I intend to take you up onto Askham Fell, not such a pull, viewing Ullswater, then walk down towards Helton, to Whale, through the woods with River Lowther to your left arriving back into Askham, and tea at  Lowther Castle hopefully.

If weather is  rubbish I will shorten the walk accordingly

Hope to see you there.
