B Walk
Loweswater Round
9 Miles Grade 2/3
Leader: Ian Rowley
Sands: 9.00am
This walk makes a complete circuit of Loweswater taking high-level paths in an anticlockwise direction. As well as a bids eye view of Loweswater hopefully there will be views over Crummock Water and Buttermere.
Starting from the car park at Waterend, just before Loweswater Hall, we’ll head north away from the lake at first for a mile or so and then circle round to Iredale Place and climb to the high point of the walk (just over 1000ft) above Holme Wood. This will be our stop for lunch with fine views over the lake. The path continues at this height for another half mile or so then it’s down to lake level passing through High Nook Farm and on to the car park at Maggies Bridge. A final short climb to get us off the road, then a descent back to the starting point. A few ups and downs but nothing too steep.

Car Walk: Sands:9.00am
We park at Lanthwaite Green. NY 1588 2077. As the walk is all about enjoying the ridges if we have 2 cars I suggest we leave one at the foot of Rannerdale Knotts thereby saving about 2 miles walking by the roadside - giving us more time for the tops.
From the park we cross the common to start the steep ascent up Whin Benn onto Whiteside (719 mtrs) above Gasgale Crags and along the ridge to Hopegill Head at 770 mtrs. From there we drop down Sand Hill to Coledale Hause and follow over Wandope Moss onto Whiteless Edge leading to Whiteless Pike (660 mtrs) From there we drop down Whiteless Breast to pick up the path over Rannerdale Knotts and then back to the start (or car 2) Refreshments in Buttermere.

A walk with great views for little effort.
Parking at Dockray we take the path alongside the art studio. Leaving the track we pick up a moorland path which may be boggy in places. Following the contour we have time to enjoy the views before rounding the top of Glencoyne Beck. There are some nicely sheltered spots for lunch on the way down. Descending to Glencoyne carpark we pick up the Ullswater Way back to the bottom of Aira Force. Here we have the choice of a tea and cake stop before wandering back alongside Aira Force or complete the walk before finding a coffee shop.
Alternative parking is National Trust owned. Any NT members please bring your membership cards.
8.2miles 1800ft of gentle ascent
