Clocks back today so we should all be extra refreshed.  Park at Seathwaite,  up the path alongside Sour Milk Ghyll.  Not really scrambling but you will need to use your hands on a couple of spots.  Then over the top and into the long valley on the north side of Base Brown and onto Green Gable.  This is a bit of a steep pull but we will take it quite easy.  Down to Windy Gap (it can really live up to its name if it is a bit blowy) and then an easy scramble to the summit of Great Gable.  Lunch there (that is the plan anyway) and then down the well made path to Styhead Tarn.  Here we turn left and back down past Taylor Ghyll Force,  acrossStockley Beck Bridge and to the cars.  Not a difficult walk but incorporates one of the highest and most dramatic fells in the whole Lake District.  As usual,  wonderful views if the weather permits.

Meet at the Sands, as usual, then its off South East to Dufton via the M6 and A66.

There is a free car park at Dufton village (complete with WC’s).

We will set off through the village and then follow part of the Pennine Way to Great Runsdale Beck.  The path takes us round the bottom of the Pike then up to the summit, height is only 481 m.  We will take it nice and slow and it will be worth it for the great view.  We may reverse our steps and go back down so far,  then follow a path through a delightful little valley, this depends on the weather, etc.   This walk is only 5.5 miles, slightly longer if we take the diversion.

Dufton itself is an interesting village to visit, and we might go through to Appleby afterwards.

Hope the weather is OK and looking forward to seeing everyone.

Sands 9.15am

We turn right at Castle Inn, straight over the A66, 1st right and 1st right again, about .6 of a mile to park on the roadside (GR193 303).  This walk links a couple of lovely little fells with an equally lovely path. An anti-clockwise ascent of Sale, slight descent and then up to Lowthwaite (views of Bass Lake, Ullock Pike, Dodd and Skiddaw), down to level path for thirty mins to a gate called Toodles (it’s probably a farm but I like to think someone’s given a gate a name), then an almost twin ascent of Ling Fell on the Corpse Road.  Ten minute descent, retracing steps for fifteen minutes before a gentle upwards traverse to the other side of Sale and down to the cars.  A short walk so lots of time for enthusiastic viewing or getting out coffee flasks.
