Keswick Walks
Sunday 2nd June 2013
A great day, the sun was shining, maybe it's the start of summer. The "B" party left the coach in Keswick and the "A" and "C" walkers carried on up the Borrowdale Valley. We set of towards Portinscale & The Newlands Valley.
There was seventeen of us on the walk including two young ladies out for the first time with the club. It was an easy pace and no hills at all. We had a longish lunch and were treated to a fashion show by Mary & John Atkinson, who showed us the latest thing in waterproof clothing. Somehow I don't think it will catch on.
We headed back towards Keswick through Braithwaite and stopped off in Portinscale for coffee and cakes. A nice gentle day. Many thanks to Graham Bell for leading the walk
A party.
Led by Catherine and Joe. Beautiful day for a change. Started at Seatoller, into Combe Gill and followed the stream till it became very interesting indeed. The party split in two with one group heading up a faint and difficult path that required a lot of care and good balance, and the more mentally challenged tackling the gill itself. We soon found ourselves scrambling up very loose, wet and quite large rocks, until we came to a waterfall with a huge rock that looked ready to make geological history by coming loose and crushing us. We could not retreat, so had to climb up a vegetated cliff to the side, relying at one stage on an uprooted tree for support. All in all, a pleasant little ramble with certain points of interest, stunning views of Borrowdale and a choice subsequently of a pint & chips or tea and scones in Rosthwaite.
