Wind Turbine
Re: Proposed 77m (250ft) wind turbine – Barrock Fell, Aiketgate - Planning Reference 14/1019
I am writing to ask if you and your other group members would be willing to object to the siting of a commercial wind turbine on
Barrock Fell, Aiketgate, Eden Valley.
As you are no doubt already aware, Barrock Fell is a prominent local landmark in the North Eden Valley, in a beautiful landscape
of rolling countryside and far-reaching views in and out of the North Pennines AONB, the Lake District National Park and Scotland.
To site a 77 metre turbine on the side of the fell at an elevation of 164m (giving a total elevation of 241 metres, higher than the
peak of Barrock Fell itself) would have a devastating impact on the local and adjacent landscape, which is enjoyed by many locals
and visitors each year. There are a number of local walks that would be badly affected by the development, some of which I am sure
your group will have enjoyed, and which we hope you will be eager to protect for the future. One such walk is the 'North Loop',
which is described as follows:“The North Loop starts in Armathwaite, passing through the beautiful scenery of the north Eden Valley,
following winding country lanes through wooded valleys, and passing impressive viaducts and idyllic picnic spots on the way.
The route heads north out of Armathwaite past the church, sticking close to the Settle-Carlisle Railway to Froddle Crook, passing
through High Stand amenity woodlands, brimming with wildlife, picnic spots and forest trails, before heading back to Armathwaite
from the crossroads at Black Moss Pool via Aiketgate village.”Many aspects of this and other popular walks will be ruined by
interrupted views, the skyline dominance of the turbine, and noise from its turning blades and internal mechanisms. The proposed site
for the turbine is at grid reference 347434, 547478; the planning submission and accompanying documents canbe found here:
The deadline for submitting an objection is 17 December 2014, and you can object online via the Eden District Council
Planning website here: http://eforms.eden.gov.uk/fastweb/comment.asp?AltRef=14/1019&ApplicationNumber=&AddressPrefix=&Postcode=CA4&Submit=Search
Further details of how and why to object can be found on our website at www.no2awt.weebly.com
We would be very grateful for your support in protecting the Eden Valley and its surrounding countryside, which is being subjected to a
proliferation of applications for inconsiderately sited turbines, which if allowed to go ahead, will have do irreparable damage to this
beautiful landscape enjoyed by so many.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Jan Whitfield
