Sunday 15th July 2018 - Coach Walk: Rosehill: 8.50am - Sands: 9.00am
This scenic walk climbs over Orrest Head and uses the historic Garburn Pass to reach Kentmere, returning by bridle ways and footpaths.
Some sections can be muddy and there is a fair amount of climbing.
There are short road sections near the beginning and at the end.
HEALTH WARNING 1: ⚠️There are no refreshments available at Ings at the end of the walk so please ensure you have sufficient water and food with you.
HEALTH WARNING 2: ⚠️Although no tops are visited, by my standards, this is a fairly strenuous walk with a lot of uphill.

One of my favourite walks, through lovely countryside and taking in the finest viewpoints in the Windermere area. We set off from Windermere and make our way up to Orrest Head, a steepish but short climb. We then go down through the woods and cross the busy A591 and the railway line to join the Dales Way, which takes us to School Knott, our second viewpoint. We will probably have our lunch at the tarn. We go east on the Dales Way for a short distance then turn south for a couple of miles then west along the south side of Undermillbeck Common.
We finally end up on our third viewpoint, Brant Fell,
our last climb of the day, as Post Knott, our fourth and final viewpoint,
is downhill.
After Post Knott we join the Dales Way again, which winds its way back into Windermere with lots of pubs and coffee shops to choose from.
A spectacular walk, not to be missed.
John
The walk is from Staveley to Windermere and is about 6 miles. From Staveley we follow the Dales Way for about 5 miles and then turn north to eventually join the road for a short walk into Windermere. The route undulates but there are no hills as such and there is about a mile along a minor road. It should be noted that, because of change of walk leader, this route has not been pre-walked due to lack of time. However, as we follow the Dales Way, it should be straightforward

Blencathra….3rd attempt after rain and wind of previous efforts from Mill Inn. 2 sections of steady steep climbing and then a lot of lovely, easier moorland with amazing views.
My ambling pace and lots of stops for drinks in this weather.
Make the most of this summer.
Hope to see you.

Bring Bus Passes. Meet at bus station to catch the
Penrith bus 104 leaving at 09.32.
Walk from the bus station to cross the A686 follow the sign for Frenchfield then through the underpass of the A66. A small diversion to visit The Countess’s Pillar and then on our way to Brougham Hall. Time at Brougham Hall for looking around, visiting the Loos and having coffee. Continue to Eamont Bridge checking out King Arthur’s Round Table if we’re interested. Past Mayburgh Henge. Over Eamont Bridge then turn right to follow the river back to the A66 underpass. A flat walk but just right for hot weather, as there are lots of coffee and ice cream opportunities along the way.
Buses back to Penrith are half hourly.
For anyone wanting to come but want to drive the parking is off the A66 east on a redundant segment of the old A66 which is where access to the Countess Pillar is.
