Keilder Forest - Deadwater Fell

Leader: Stephen Parker

Not much to say about this walk really, we will park at Kielder Castle Car Park (pay and display) and set off for the summit of Deadwater Fell along forestry paths and tracks, lunch will be taken inside the wooden shelter at the summit of Deadwater Fell and weather permitting we should be able to see Kielder Water and more in the distance.
After lunch it is all downhill back to the cars even though for the first bit we keep walking away from the cars, once back at the car park refreshments will be taken at the café at the castle.
Stephen
A very straightforward and relatively easy walk up one side of the beautiful Langstrath Valley and down the other at a very relaxed pace.
Hopefully we will still be in time for some fantastic Autumn colours.
Parking in Stonethwaite village just passed the school, there is space off to the right where we have parked before.
Fingers crossed for a dry day!
Jo
Car Walk: Sands:9.00am
This is advertised in the programme as The Deer Rut, possibly a bit of wishful thinking on my part as it will be more to the back end of this yearly event. Seeing fighting or bonking Deer is always difficult as it tends to happen early doors or late on. Whatever, there should be loads of deer about looking at us looking at them. Last year was a bit of a blow out due to the full on fox hunt that was going on in the Martindale valley lets hope for better things this time around.
Starting off from the church in Martindale(free parking) its a nice progressive route all the way up Beda Fell. Last year this turned out to be pretty spectacular as all the hills were covered in snow, more of the same please. Its then on to Angle Tarn, for my money the best tarn in the Lakes. Last year we did Angle Tarn Pikes, for a change we will head to the south of the tarn and go up Brock Crags, only a little climb ( If anyone has not been up ATPikes and wants a look its no big detour so we can accommodate them). Its then back to the tarn to go down via Heck Crag and Bannerdale. From here, it is usually the best place for deer spotting. Having said that we could bump into them almost anywhere. Once we it the valley floor its a long walk back to the cars in great countryside. Lunch probably at the tarn.
Be there or be square, Pete.
