Footpaths

Hello fellow  members.
I am requesting that you may consider supporting the following action.
A group, including myself,  have been working on the reinstatement of the paths for a very long time.
The case concerns footpaths around the Townhead Wood and Gelt area. Although the paths have been shown on maps for over a hundred years and walked by many, they were not included in the 1950s definitive map of footpaths. Recent events have led to modification and the closure of certain paths. Many Club walkers will be aware of these changes, like us the County Council Officers have been denied access to the land.
After setbacks and the case going as far as the Secretary of State all the hard work, including 70 witness statements, the County Council are recommending to the DC & R Committee that the reinstatement of the Network of Paths be approved.

It would be good if we can make a strong representation at Kendal County Hall on March 30th. There is no need to say or do anything just to be there is all that is necessary.
We are very hopeful the footpaths will be opened up to be walked freely once again.

Please contact me for further information, comments, the full report, or the synopsis. This action is just part of a range of actions we have been taking to protect our countryside and footpaths from the plans of developers and others.

With best wishes

Tony Fenton
