"A" Walk

Wild Boar Fell

7 miles Grade 2/3

Leader: Pete Rutland

THIS IS SHOWN AS THE A WALK IN THE PROGRAMME DONT LET THIS PUT THE B WALKERS OFF JOINING IN.
JOURNEY TO START POINT. 56 miles, which takes 1hr15. unless you get stuck behind a Milk Tanker and horse box, which will make it infinitely longer.
We will go in convoy from the Sands but destructions are as follows.
Motorway to Penrith. Then A66 to BROUGH. At Brough turn right at the GOLDEN FLEECE, A685 to KIRBY STEPHEN. At the end of Kirby Stephen High St turn left toward NATBY on the B6259. Go through Natby and just stick on the B6259. This is a country road with very little on it but WBF will be on your right. You will come to what looks like a small mobile phone mast on your right. Just after this you will take a sharp right across a railway bridge, the car park is just there on the left.
The easy option will be to follow me.
Having got to the car park we might then go for a walk.
We go back down the road a short distance and turn left by a lovely converted barn, up a slight hill to get on the other side of the railway track. We then follow the wall line for less than a mile until reaching the main path where we go left, then cut back to go up to The Nab, then the the Summit. We will come down via Swarth Fell, which is no real effort. This drops us down on the road above where we started, giving a short walk back to the cars.
When checking out this walk I did not take the first mile and a half of this walk due to access problems. Consequently I had a serious trek across country which I can assure you will be no fun for anyone. I have been back and things have since been resolved. I was reliably informed by a local walker that all is well and there will be no problems.

Time wise this is no further than going down to Coniston but if the weather is bad we will stay local.
Bad weather alternative Gowbarrow
Very bad weather alternative, stay in bed.

Hope to see you there
Pete Rutland.
