Coach Walk:Rosehill:8.50am-Sands:9.00am
We get the major climb out of the way first. The route takes us above the town past the golf course and Whita Well to the Monument to Sir John Malcolm on top of Whita Hill, 355 ft. We then follow the track down to the open book memorial to the poet, Hugh MacDiarmid before a short time on the minor road to Newcastleton. We continue descending to the High Mill Bridge, crossing it and taking the Bagra route to the lower slopes of the Castle Hill. We follow the track round the hill before a lovely wooded section, the Duchess Bridge and back to the town for refreshments at the Eskdale Hotel.

Sunday 24th November 2019 - Coach Walk - Langholm
Rosehill: 8.50am - Sands: 9.00am
We follow the B group (I always set off slowly!) to Whita Well before turning south past the Whita quarries to a viewpoint which gives our promised view of Langholm from the east. Then it's over the stile and down the track towards Broomholmshiels before doubling back towards the Round House, dropping down to Skipper's Bridge and across the River Esk. Then it's up Skipper's Cleuch and westwards up the pathless, wet and tussocky (lovely!) eastern slopes of Warblaw. From the summit, by the mast, we have our first view of Langholm from the west.
Now it's onwards and downwards, across the Wauchope Water, up the quiet road towards Becks farm, along a loaning with ancient crab apple trees, before turning northwards along the pathless Calfield Rig, then east to Timpen (Mid Hill on OS maps), on to Meikleholm Hill (our second view of Langholm from the west), then down to town. Simples!

I will meet you at Low Gelt RSPB car park at 09.40
We will follow the riverside path to Middle Gelt then to Greenwell.
Crossing the Brampton – Castle Carrock road we head for Talkin village and downhill to the Tarn on quiet lanes.
After a circuit – or two - of the Tarn we return to the bird reserve through open fields and woods in their autumnal glory.
There will be boggy stretches but the walk is mostly on good paths and minor roads.
Meet afterwards at Hayton Farm shop.
Hope you can make it, Tony.
PS Watch out for numerous average speed cameras Warwick-on-Eden onward. They may be operational!

Leaving Kilngreen, we cross Ewes Bridge and climb (slowly!) to the foot of Castle Hill, before continuing northwards through Langfauld Wood, giving some lovely views across the Esk Valley, to Potholm, where we cross the bridge and follow the quiet road back towards Langholm. Crossing the B709, we take the good track to the lower slopes of Meikleholm Hill, where Langholm and its valleys appear below us. It's then a straightforward drop back to town, across the Duchess bridge and on to welcome refreshments!

CLUB XMAS PARTY - 13th December 2019
We have the club Xmas party scheduled for the 13th December
However, in that same week we have the Wednesday Xmas lunch walk &
on the Sunday we have the Sunday Xmas lunch walk.
There is also the small matter of a General Election on the Thursday
Indications are, that not enough members are likely to attend, to justify all the hard work required to hold the party.
The committee have reluctantly decided that the
XMAS PARTY IS CANCELLED
